Fieldtrip to a Site in Tama New Town
Archaeological excavations in advance of the construction of Tama New Town (TNT) in the hills on the southern outskirts of Tokyo began in the middle 1960s. Some excavation work is still going on there. The project area has about 950 or 1,000 registered sites. It is a place where I took students on fieldtrips several times over nearly three decades of teaching. Here are some photos from a fieldtrip about 2000. This site is a Middle Jomon village in the final stage of excavation, prepared for the final photographs for the excavation report and for public lectures.
